Moisture Adsorption and Desorption Behavior of Raw Materials for the T-RTM Process

The use of fiber reinforced plastics (FRPs) has significant potential to reduce the weight components. As regards sustainability these components, thermoplastic matrices offer more for recycling than thermoset ones. A possible manufacturing process production FRPs is resin transfer molding (T-RTM). In this very moisture-sensitive process, ε-caprolactam in addition an activator and catalyst polymerizes anionically polyamide 6 (aPA6). anionic polymerization aPA6 slowed down or even completely blocked by presence water. This study analyses sorption behavior matrix, fiber, binder core materials composites, which are processed RTM process. Water vapor measurements used determine adsorption desorption materials. maximum moisture loading provides information about water capacity material. knowledge crucial correct handling achieve a fast good properties final product.
